The Easy (and FREE) Way to Organize Meals - Jessica's Story
Sometimes the best way to help ourselves after a difficult time in our own lives is to care for others.
This statement could not be more true for Jessica and her husband, Isaac. In 2021, their infant son, Jack Edgar was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Their young family spent many weeks in the hospital. Their friends, family, and church supported them by organizing meals through Take Them A Meal. One friend even provided multiple freezer meals, so there would always be something to eat when they left the hospital. Sadly, Jack passed away and when Jessica and Isaac returned home, their community continued to care for them with meals.

Friends used Take Them A Meal to care for Jessica and Isaac during the life and loss of their precious son, Jack Edgar. And now, Jessica cares for others with meals in the same way. Her church lists available meal schedules in the bulletin and Jessica provides meals for others when there is a new baby, illness, or loss of a family member. She takes meals to others knowing how much meals supported her and her husband through their own grief.

Jessica's favorite meal to take is Simple Chicken Pot Pie. Early in their marriage, she and her husband were serving in Uganda and it's a dish she made to remind them of life in the United States. She continues to take that meal to her own friends because she hopes "when we take people that meal that they feel comforted with a little piece of home."

Jessica makes the filling ahead of time and uses pre-made pie crust to save time. She sends along a fresh salad and loves the challenge of preparing a meal that fits when with a family's dietary needs. She has made some adjustments to a classic recipe and we're sharing it in our recipe section. Jessica's dog, Huck, is her official "taste tester" and endorses the recipe.

At first, Jessica was a meal recipient cared for by her loved ones and now she cares for others with the same support she received. During times of joy and sorrow, Take Them A Meal can help you easily coordinate meal schedules for friends.
