3 Reasons to Embrace a Meal Offer!
There are so many reasons for taking meals and accepting them. Take Them A Meal was created to simplify the process of giving meals to loved ones, friends, coworkers, or anyone going through hardship. What if you're the one going through a difficult time and would benefit from meals, but hesitate to say yes because you're worried about being a burden? I often relate to this, and in the spirit of leading by example, here are three great tips that make asking for help easier!
Don't Underestimate a Friend's Willingness to Help
Many of us don't share our needs because we are worried they will be rejected. One study suggests that we often underestimate others' willingness to help! Saying yes to an offer can strengthen our relationships and help build community and friendships. You might be surprised at how ready your friends are to say "YES!" to your need for a meal schedule!
Having a Need is Not a Weakness
Another reason you may hesitate to say yes to a meal offer is you're worried you'll come across as needy. We all go through difficult situations, and because we can relate, friends and family are often more willing to help than we realize. Being specific to those closest to you about what you're going through and what might be helpful can be a blessing to your friends and loved ones. By doing so, you are providing them an opportunity to show that you matter to them!
You Are Opening a Door For Meaningful Work
Last year, when my mom offered me a home-cooked soup to help me through a cold, I thought about saying no. I realized by saying yes to her offer I wasn't causing extra work for her, but was opening a door for meaningful work! My mom loved reaching out and I loved the comforting bowl of soup to soothe my irritated throat.
If you struggle with saying yes to a meal offer, I hope you will consider these helpful tips the next time someone offers to set up a meal schedule for you. We share a lot about taking meals, but it is also a great joy to be on the receiving end too!
We love supporting you as you reach out to those in your communities. Do you find it difficult to say yes to meals? How have you overcome those feelings? We'd love to hear!
