Get Well Gift Ideas for Teen Girls (or anyone for that matter)
My (almost) teen daughter had knee surgery two months ago and her lack of mobility definitely discouraged her in the weeks following the surgery.
I learned a lot about how to care for someone post surgery from our friends and appreciated their kindness toward her. She was always happy to have visitors. Here are some of the thoughtful items friends and family brought to help her pass the time while she was healing:

1. Unicorn Roses - These roses were shipped to our doorstep the day after my daughter arrived home and she loved them! They brightened her room, but they were also a conversation piece because everyone was curious about them. They lasted a full two weeks and then we dried the petals which were just as pretty in a glass jar.

2. Utter Nonsense! - My daughter's friend brought her this game and laughter truly is the best medicine. She giggled more playing this game with her friends than any other time in her recovery. You are given phrases to read using a specific accent and the judge decides who does it best! It's easy to play if you're immobile because it only involves pulling cards from a box.

3. Cadbury Mini Eggs (or a favorite candy) - A friend from church knew my daughter was going to have surgery and she knows how much she loves Cadbury Mini Eggs. Unfortunately, they are seasonal and you can only buy them around Easter. Can you believe my friend saved her a bag? That is pure love. I'm not sure I could have a bag hiding in our house that I don't open. Our personal opinion is that they are the BEST chocolate candy ever! Even if you can't get these, a jar of the patient's favorite candy to keep on the nightstand is appreciated.

4. Balloons - Did you know there is a national helium shortage? I didn't either. Helium is used by MRI machines, so medical institutions get the available helium before stores that sell balloons. My daughter received some vibrant balloons from a family friend who was able to find some for sale, but if that's your "go to" get well gift, you might want some other ideas. These family friends also brought an Anne of Green Gables audio CD and root beer floats.

5. Ice Cream Cake - Our next door neighbor brought over an ice cream cake to make my girl smile. This particular one was from Dairy Queen. She didn't have much of an appetite, but she did have room for a little ice cream cake. She also liked offering some to her friends who came to visit. This same neighbor also brought my daughter a puzzle and loaned us a portable wheelchair which was nice for getting her some fresh air.

6. Garden Flowers - Two friends brought beautiful fresh cut flowers from their yards and the colors definitely lifted her spirits. One arranged them in a pale blue mason jar and the other used a vintage-looking vase from the Target Dollar Spot. As the caregiver, these were also a gift to me when we couldn't be outside. These friends also brought delicious chocolate chip cookies and more of my daughter's favorite candy. We froze the cookies and she would heat one every few days as a treat.

7. Sunshine Box - Precious friends who live out of town sent a Sunshine Box! It even arrived on a rainy day and filled the room with color. You can see all of the yellow items they included in the photo. Those socks still make me smile!
Just this week, my daughter was able to say goodbye to her crutches. The many visits and get well gifts from our friends made these past two months much easier for her. I was reminded again that small gestures definitely make a HUGE difference when we are facing difficult times.
