A Storage Solution Simplifying Your Daily Life
I'm a part of a Facebook group where we share ways to simplify different aspects of our lives. A fellow mom of school aged children asked if anyone in the group had solutions for shoe storage to avoid the inevitable pileup at the door! Since this question was relevant to me, I thought it might be relevant to you as well. I'm always looking for ways to make coming and going easier. When you're headed out the door with a meal for a friend, this solution will allow you (and anyone who is going along) to easily find your shoes and you'll have an extra surface to place your delivery items.
We do not have a mudroom in our house. Shoes quickly accumulate in our front entry room and as a family of seven, you can imagine the number of shoes! I appreciate having them easily accessible for when we are running out the door, but I also do not want to see them lying on the rug as a tripping hazard on our way upstairs or to the kitchen!
The solution that has worked beautifully for me has been putting a dresser in our entryway. I found an old dresser that fit our space perfectly, repainted it, and we now use it to store most of our shoes. Not only does it hide the clutter of shoes, but it doesn't take up a lot of space while looking like an intentional piece of furniture in our house.
Space!
I knew I needed a solution that I could use in our existing entry that wouldn't take up a lot of space or feel bulky. You could easily customize this idea by buying something to fit your space. I love using a dresser because it keeps shoes off the floor and when the drawers are closed, our space feels tidy.
Organization!
Having a designated spot, like a shoe dresser, is helpful especially when you find yourself rushing out the door. My kids know to put their shoes away and they usually know where to look first when they need their shoes in a hurry. You could further organize your own shoe dresser by assigning each child their own drawer. Small baskets like these easily fit in the top drawer and are a great place for extra items like my son's football flags, keys, or our dog's walking leash.
Hiding Clutter!
The drawers in our dresser fit multiple pairs of shoes and it's wonderful just being able to easily close them when we're done using it. Hiding clutter means it doesn't need to look pretty on the inside. As long as I know shoes are away, I'm happy.
Many of us are looking at a busier season ahead. While we care for our families or friends in our communities, it helps having the items we reach for the most often in an organized spot.
Do you have any unconventional storage solutions you want to share that make caring for your loved ones easier? We'd love to hear!
I love that when not in use, the shoe dresser looks like a pretty piece of furniture in our entryway. No one knows what is inside when the drawers are closed!
