Meal Schedule Details
Deliver Meals To:
The shelters at Saint Benedict Parish, 45 Radcliffe Drive, Halifax, NS, B3M 0E1
Notes from SBP Meals:
Those who are generous are blessed, for they share their bread with the poor. Proverbs 22:9
IMPORTANT NOTES:
*** THREE (3) meals to be provided the day that you have signed up for
*** DELIVER meals directly to the residents at their shelters OR to the church front doors and call 782-414-9015 to let us know the meals are ready for pickup - we'll let our residents know they can pick them up
*** There will be coolers at each shelter that you can leave the meal in if a resident is not on site when you deliver the meals
*** DELIVER meals between 5:00pm to 7:00pm
*** UPDATE - We do have a resident with a dairy allergy so please avoid recipes that contain dairy products.
Thank you for serving in this ministry. This ministry will provide a home cooked meal to our shelter residents on Monday through Friday evening and your hot meal is both nourishment and a sign of love for our residents.
How this ministry works it's just three steps!
1. You register to provide a meal to our residents who live in the SBP shelters for a date that is convenient to you - simply click on the "Take" button beside the date you have selected.
2. You prepare a meal for the number of residents we have in the shelters - see top of this note for current number of residents. Individually package each meal in a disposable container.
3. You deliver the meals between 5:00-7:00pm on the date you registered for.
*** NOTE - Our residents do not have access to facilities to heat their meals so please deliver the meals "ready to eat".
Please note - do NOT use the "Send" button or the "Send them a meal" links on the website - see notes below for why.
If you encounter any difficulty with the website, please use the website Help function or email us at sbpmeals@saintbenedict.ca and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
A few reminders and details:
- When you register, please leave your name, email address and phone number in case we need to get in touch with you. Your name will appear on the website but your email address and phone number will only be visible to the ministry coordinators. Please also indicate what you plan to serve (so we can have variety in the menu).
- You will get an email right away, confirming the date you have selected and you will get a reminder email the day before you are scheduled to provide the meals. We also suggest you keep track of your registered date so as not to disappoint our residents who will be expecting your meal.
- If something comes up for your scheduled date and you are unable to provide the meals, please email us at sbpmeals@saintbenedict.ca or if it is the day of the scheduled delivery, please call us at 782-414-9015.
- Our residents generally enjoy the same dinners as you and I. Some protein, some vegetables, some starch and a little something sweet. The only things to keep in mind are:
- One resident has a dairy allergy so please refrain from providing meals with dairy products in the recipe.
- The shelters do not have heating elements so meals should be delivered between 5:00-7:00pm. If a resident is not present, please leave their meal in the cooler that will be outside their shelter.
- Each meal should be individually packaged (our residents need the option of dining individually).
- Please use only disposable containers as our residents don't have easy access to facilities to wash dirty containers and we don't have a safe place for our residents to leave empty containers for pick up.
- You have two options to deliver the meals:
1. Meals can be delivered directly to the residents at their shelters (or left in the cooler if they are not present); OR
2. Meals can be dropped off at the church front doors and then call 782-414-9015 to let us know they're ready for pickup.
- If you encounter any difficulty with delivering the meal, please let us know at sbpmeals@saintbenedict.ca or if urgent 782-414-9015.
- Please note - do NOT use the "Send" button or the "Send them a meal" links on the website. This would send our residents a frozen meal and they do not have access to refrigerated storage or cooking facilities (also note that as this is a third party website, we are not even sure if they deliver meals to Halifax !).
- We are using this third-party website, Take Them a Meal, to support this ministry.
