Notes from Tam Pilkington:
Thank you so much for supporting our Strathy Angel food program. Please use the calendar below and cook as many times as you wish, and don't forget to check back regularly as families may be added if the need arises.

We're excited to announce that we're now trialling a second way to support our meal program. In addition to the wonderful homemade meals our volunteers have been preparing we're opening the door for contributors to purchase ready-to-heat meals on behalf of recipients. We're looking for the same style of meal our home cooks have always provided: hearty, family-friendly dishes that can be easily reheated at home. For example, prepared meals from local cafes, delis, or butchers. We're not accepting fast food, restaurant takeaway, or anything that needs to be eaten immediately. This trial has been introduced in response to community feedback. We know not everyone has the time, kitchen setup, or confidence to cookbut many people still want to help. This option lets more community members contribute in a way that works for them.

To our home cooks:
The homemade meals you've been providing are the heart of this programand that isn't changing. We enormously value the time and effort you put into every meal you provide. This trial is about expanding who can contribute, not replacing what you do.

To our meal purchasers:
Welcome to the Strathy Angels, thank you for your contribution. You will NOT need a food safety certificate to provide a meal purchased at a food service establishment, you will however need one if you are providing anything made in your own kitchen, eg. dessert, salad, lunchbox treats. The food safety certificate is not difficult to get and you can find details of how to get it in the information below.
**Please put the letters PM next you your meal in the roster if you are purchasing your entire meal (otherwise you will be required to get your food safety certificate).

Suggested businesses that provide good quality ready-to-heat meals:
Via Porta - 677 Whitehorse Rd, Mont Albert
Chapter Three - 137 Maling Rd, Canterbury
The Corner Deli - 229 High St, Ashburton
Blakeaway -1/18 Brixton Rise, Glen Iris

To everyone:

When providing a dinner, please provide enough for a Family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children).
Please provide a main meal (dinner), salad/veg, It is completely optional but you are welcome to include a dessert or lunch box treats like muffins, cookies etc.

Use new non returnable disposable containers.
No nuts, no seafood, only pre-packaged rice.
Food regulations require that you supply a full list of ingredients and the date cooked.

To get or update your food safety certification, the Food Safety course recommended by Strathcona can be found at https://dofoodsafely.health.vic.gov.au/index.php/en/
Please send your certificate to: ppham@strathcona.vic.edu.au so your file can be updated in the Strathcona system, and copy me in at tamara.pilkington@ipi-inst.com.au.

Please do not hesitate to inform us if you or anyone you know would benefit from a meal from the Strathy Angels. Any information given to the Strathy Angels will be held in strict confidence:
Jo Wilson, Director of School & Community Relations: jwilson@strathcona.vic.edu.au
