COVID-19 INFORMATION

In a continuing effort to reduce the potential for exposure to the COVID-19 virus for the families we that serve, our volunteers, and our staff, we are making an adjustment to our Meals that Mend program. PLEASE REVIEW THIS UPDATED INFORMATION and call Heather at 719-471-1814 with any questions.

Please note that you MUST wear a MASK for the ENTIRE TIME that you are inside the Ronald McDonald House.

****************************************************************************************************************************
We will continue to assess the situation as it evolves. Please check back here for the latest information. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PATIENCE, FLEXIBILITY, AND SUPPORT!

*****************************************************************************************************************************

> ON-SITE dinner preparation is available 7 NIGHTS/WEEK (Monday through Sunday)
Brunch preparation is available on the 3rd Sunday of each month.

> GROUP SIZE is LIMITED to no more than 6 (six) PEOPLE/DAY. You will be asked to provide PARTICIPANT NAMES and expected ARRIVAL TIME prior to your meal date.

> The minimum age for volunteering with us is 10. All volunteers under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

> All participants must be illness and symptom-free for 14 days prior to the meal date.

> All participants MUST wear FACE COVERINGS, GLOVES, AND CLOSED-TOE SHOES during the cooking process.

> Order a catered meal from a local restaurant for delivery (5:30 PM delivery, please).

> Drop off a meal that has been prepared in a commercial kitchen (i.e., grocery or restaurant). WE CANNOT ACCEPT ANY HOMEMADE FOODS. Please plan your drop off to allow enough time for our staff and volunteers to complete the prep work so that dinner will be ready by 6:00 PM.

*****************************************************************************************************************************
As a Meals that Mend volunteer, you will be helping our families during a very difficult time in their lives. Together with friends, family, or co-workers, you may provide a comforting, home-cooked meal for our families. Below are requirements and additional information for you as you plan your meal.

****************************************************************************************************************************
MENU PLANNING: You will need to PROVIDE YOUR MENU when you sign up. A LIST OF INGREDIENTS will be required no later than your meal date.

> The EXPENSES of the meal and drinks are YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.

> Providing drinks is optional but appreciated. NO ALCOHOL is allowed for cooking or for consumption.

> Anything that can be stored and reheated is best. Individual packaging may be requested to assist with leftover storage.

> Please include a protein, starch, and vegetable with your meal.

> In the interest of breastfeeding moms, PLEASE AVOID SPICY DISHES. You may provide spicy ingredients like jalapenos, cayenne pepper, hot sauce, etc., on the side for those that wish to add them.

> Please take note of other meals being served within a week of your date to AVOID DUPLICATIONS. (Ex: Please reconsider your taco bar if chicken enchiladas are already being served within 4 days.)

> The number of guests will vary daily. On average, we serve 35 PEOPLE each night. A better estimate will be provided to you 3-5 days in advance of your meal date.

****************************************************************************************************************************
DIETARY RESTRICTIONS: You MUST PROVIDE A LIST OF INGREDIENTS used in your meal.

> Some of our guests may have food allergies or sensitivities. It is therefore important that we provide a list of ingredients so that they know whether or not they may enjoy your meal (or leftovers).

> You are invited to call the House the day of your meal for an updated list of food allergies or sensitivities. You may also check the chalkboard inside the pantry when you arrive on your meal date.

> It is not necessary for you to adjust your menu, but our guests greatly appreciate knowing that they can safely enjoy what you have made for them.

****************************************************************************************************************************
FOOD SAFETY: We must follow Food Safety Standards set by Ronald McDonald House Charities.

> ALL food must be prepared either on site or in a licensed retail food kitchen (store, deli, restaurant).

> We CANNOT ACCEPT any HOMEMADE foods.

> You must WEAR GLOVES during the entire cooking process. Be sure to WASH YOUR HANDS before putting on gloves. All participants must follow frequent and proper handwashing guidelines. Wash for 20 seconds using soap and warm water. Be sure to clean your hands, wrists, and under your fingernails. After washing, be sure to use a paper towel to touch the faucet.

> Be sure to CHANGE YOUR GLOVES (and wash your hands) every hour. Also change your gloves after handling high-risk items (meat, dairy, nuts, eggs, or seafood), after handling dirty dishes or garbage, after touching your hair, skin, clothes, or phone, and after returning from the bathroom.

****************************************************************************************************************************
UPON ARRIVAL:

> Use the RED PHONE in the entryway to call the front desk. You will be asked HEALTH SCREENING QUESTIONS about any symptoms or exposure you may have had before being permitted entry.

> Once inside, your TEMPERATURE will be taken with a non-touch Thermoscan thermometer.

> SIGN IN at the front desk.

> All participants must complete a LIABILITY WAIVER (if not already done within the past year). Anyone under 18 years of age MUST also have their form signed by a parent/legal guardian and MUST be supervised at all times while at the Ronald McDonald House. The minimum volunteer age is 10.

> We have cabinets available for you to store any personal belongings (purse, coat, etc.).

****************************************************************************************************************************
BEFORE YOU LEAVE:

> Please be sure to WASH ALL DISHES and SANITIZE ALL SURFACES that you used in preparation for your meal.

> Be prepared to TAKE OUT THE TRASH (if one of our shift volunteers doesn't get to it before you do). WASH YOUR HANDS.

> Turn in your INGREDIENTS LIST OR a copy of your RECIPE.

> SIGN OUT at the front desk.

> Collect any personal items you may have left in the volunteer cabinet.
